TULUM - MEXICO
by Hazal Sen
What is your most unforgettable Escape?
What was the purpose of your travel?
For the last couple of months I’ve been very busy with myself both physically and spiritually. So, the main purpose of my travel was reconnecting both body and mind to my roots.
With how many people did you travel?
Myself and mom
Where did you stay?
It was very difficult to pick a hotel since all of them are picture perfect, however Papaya Playa Project offers you the best components all together; delicious food, sugar-white sand beach, morning meditation classes, and it’s literally located in a jungle, so don’t expect getting any mobile phone signals!
What did you most like about the trip?
Tulum is absolutely a feast for the eyes and the tummy! I’m a huge nature lover and I admired how eco-friendly they are. It is surrounded by the most beautiful virgin beaches and you get to enjoy this view while having the fresh fish taco from the ocean and a delicious margarita or doing yoga overlooking the water. Unlike other beach getaways, Tulum has several sightseeing to do from historic ruins to cenotes.
Could you share an unforgettable memory about the trip?
Every morning around sunrise I was going to a yoga class by the beach, however one morning due to the crazy rain we couldn’t do our own regular yoga routines and ended up doing the yoga nidra, a state in which the body is fully relaxed and the practitioner goes deep into your inner world and discovers your subconscious realms. With the sunrise, white beach, rain and a little meditation: I am in heaven.
Your most surprising find during the trip?
The cenotes! They are basically natural sinkholes that are filled with underground water. The experience of diving underwater and swimming in a cave full of baths was unreal.
Favorite restaurant(s) or food you have tried during your trip?
For dinner; La Zebra, Papaya Playa, Gitano, Hartwood!
For lunch; Posada Margherita is the best!
Best local bar: Batey
Best breakfast: The Raw Love Café (Ahau Hotel)
Best Coffee: Ki bok in town
Best Pizza: Sale e Pepe in town
What are the must tries of the city?
Posada Margherita’s fresh pasta
Cycling on the coast line
Diving in amazing cenotes
A good massage by the beach
Any hidden gems you could whisper to us?
We really enjoyed the Batey. They have the best margherita and live music every night.
Would you go back?
In a heart-beat.
Any tips that might be useful to know before going there?
I would recommend to rent a car when you arrive at Cancun and using sunscreen can save your life.
Next stop you would like to visit?
The Incredible India!
