CELTIC LAND

What is your most unforgettable Escape?

My last escape was a return home in the celtic regions of France, Brittany.

What was the purpose of your travel?

The purpose was to reconnect both the body and the mind to my roots, be it to the sea landscapes or the faces and the voices who crowded my summers.

With how many people did you travel?

I joined my mother and her husband. It was the first time in years since I live abroad during the year.

Where did you stay?

We rented a house in the city of Loctudy, at the heart of the bigouden country.

What did you most like about the trip?

Being an adult in the region of my memories was new, fresh and disorienting. Every little happening was a carnival of sensory memories. A warmth in the known-smell of melted butter and sugar, or the rhythm of the gusts of wind, accompanying your every hour up the cliffs, the seagulls' orchestra.

Could you share an unforgettable memory about the trip?

İt was a very natural and solitary week. One afternoon, after having prepared a picnic of my favorite forgotten French pastries and delights, I went to the beach and witnessed a thunderstorm arriving towards the lighthouse under clouds of purple and a cacophony of birds and waves.

Your most surprising find during the trip?

A lot of family secrets were shared from my mother to her husband who was visiting for the first time our home.

Favorite restaurant(s) or food you have tried during your trip?

There's nothing like a fresh dozen of oysters and a cauldron-boiled lobster.

What are the must tries of the city?

The langoustines! Loctudy is a serene port delivering the best langoustines of Europe - they are a bigger and tastier version of shrimps.

Any hidden gems you could whisper to us?

The fresh dozens of crepes at the Boulangerie Briec - the queue at the bakery doesn't fool anyone, nor does the smell. They also make for great culinary gifts.

Would you go back?

It is home, I am bound to return, with delight.
